CAA Notifications on Supplementary Instructions (SI)
Two Supplementary Instructions (SIs) to the Manual of Air Traffic Service (MATS) Part 1 (CAP 493) have been published:
Supplementary Instruction 2020/05 is to permit (subject to local safety assessment) flexibility around the use of the IDENT feature with conspicuityand special purpose SSR codes.
Supplementary Instruction 2020/06 is to insert a flexibility provision into the ‘change of service’ text and corrects cross-referencing errors.

CAP 493 SI 2020/04: Wake Turbulence
The purpose of this Supplementary Instruction is to detail changes made to the Manual of Air Traffic Services (MATS) Part 1 (CAP 493) to implement the wake turbulence related aspects of Amendment 9 to ICAO Doc 4444 PANS-ATM, and to amend aspects of existing MATS Part 1 wake turbulence content following a review by the CAA.

SI 2020/01 CAP 493 – Expiry of ORS4 1312: Standardised European Rules of the Air – Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) Visibility and Distance from Cloud Minima within Class D Airspace
The purpose of this Supplementary Instruction (SI) is to remind air traffic service providers that Official Record Series (ORS) 4 General Exemption No. 1312 is planned to expire at 2359 UTC on 25 March 2020. Consequently, from 26 March 2020 the requirements of SERA.5001 Table S5-1 and SERA.5005(a) will apply without variation and reference to ORS4 No 1312 is removed from the Manual of Air Traffic Services (MATS) Part 1 (CAP 493).

Supplementary Instruction (SI 2019/08 to (CAP 493) – Amendment to Royal Flights procedure and the withdrawal of the Selected Helicopter Flights procedure – MATS Pt 1 (CAP 493)
The purpose of this Supplementary Instruction (SI) to the Manual of Air Traffic Services (MATS) Part 1 (CAP 493) is to introduce changes to the Royal Flights procedure and to notify the withdrawal of the Selected Helicopter Flights procedure.

Supplementary Instruction (SI) 2019/06 to CAP493 – Class E airspace ATS procedures amendment – phase 2 – version 2
MATS Pt 1 (CAP493) Supplementary Instruction (SI) 2019/06 implement phase 2 changes to Class E Airspace ATS procedures. This SI has been updated to include several additional amendments and is reissued as version 2.

This SI details changes made to the MATS Part 1 (CAP 493), relating to the implementation of ATS.TR.100 within Annex IV ‘Part-ATS’ to Reg (EU) No 2017/373 the ‘Air Traffic Management)/Air Navigation Services Common Requirements Regulation’.

This SI details changes made to the Radiotelephony Manual (CAP 413), relating to the implementation of ATS.TR.100 within Annex IV ‘Part-ATS’ to Reg (EU) No 2017/373 the ‘Air Traffic Management)/Air Navigation Services Common Requirements Regulation’.

Supplementary Instruction (SI) 2018/02 to the Manual of Air Traffic Services (MATS) Part 1 (CAP 493) was published on 15 June 2018.
This SI implements changes to the initial reporting action procedure for an Air Traffic Control Unit (ATCU) providing an Air Traffic Service (ATS) at an aerodrome.

Supplementary Instruction (SI) 2018/01 to CAP 797 Flight Information Service Officer (FISO) Manual Edition 3 was published on 15 June 2018, effective 14 August 2018.
This SI details changes made to the FISO Manual (CAP 797), relating to the reporting of accidents and serious incidents by FISOs to the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB).
